Society for Cognitive Science

UVA Society for Cognitive Science (SCS) is an academic and social organization for all students interested and engaged in the interdisciplinary field of Cognitive Science. Our mission is to assist fellow COGS students to explore and navigate the five sub-fields of psychology, linguistics, philosophy, neuroscience, and computer science from multiple, diverse perspectives. The Society provides opportunities for networking with current majors and alumni, for mentoring and being mentored by other people in the major, for providing information and suggestions of favorite COGS classes, and to promote personal growth within the COGS context.

UI/UX

UI/UX at UVA is a design collective dedicated to fostering a community of aspiring designers to explore, share, and collaborate on their creative processes. Our CIO is focused on forming a design community on grounds to foster creativity and growth through hands-on projects and workshops to further student involvement in the user interface and experience design field. We are gearing up to restart this fall, and we need more creative and passionate students to make it amazing! Nu Rho Psi: Neuroscience Honor Society

Nu Rho Psi is the National Honor Society in Neuroscience, founded in 2006 by the faculty of Neuroscience. In our chapter at the University of Virginia, we connect our members with pre-professional resources for a future career in neuroscience and promote engagement in neuroscience in the Charlottesville community.

Applications to our organization are accepted at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. The following are requirements listed by the national branch of Nu Rho Psi for membership in local chapters:

  • Major, minor, other emphasis in Neuroscience (The Cognitive Science BA Concentration is accepted)
  • Completion of at least 3 semesters of the College course
  • Completion of at least 9 semester hours of Neuroscience-related courses
  • Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in Neuroscience courses

Cognitive Science Society

The Cognitive Science Society brings together researchers from around the world who hold a common goal: understanding the nature of the human mind. The mission of the Society is to promote Cognitive Science as a discipline, and to foster scientific interchange among researchers in various areas of study, including Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, Anthropology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Philosophy, and Education. The Society is a non-profit professional organization and its activities include sponsoring an annual conference and publishing the journals Cognitive Science and Topics.
